Fine Sometimes Rain Chapter 05 – P03
Just to briefly explain for those who never went to art school or who did not study rococo art…oh who am I kidding you really have to be a 17th-18th century enthusiast to get this joke at all….Anyway in school my friends and I found a certain painting of King Louis XIV pretty darned funny. Back in the day, men’s calves were considered all manly and sexy, and the Sun King is obviously all like…laaaadies~ feast your eyes upon my well turned calf. That isn’t the only painting where he is showing off his legs either, if you google him you will find plenty.
I also wanted to mention, and this is super important, but I am advertising on TopWebcomics this week and next week, so during this time please vote for my comic, because the higher I can rise in the ranks this month the more visibility I will have! 🙂 Thanks for the explanation. What was funny without knowing became even funnier. Especially since I just spent 20 minutes on Google giggling to myself.
Yup! Times sure have changed. XD
Hehe, well I’m glad it was still funny and I’m also glad it offered some diversion this afternoon. XD Actually if you look up other nobles or royals from the 17th century you will see them all much the same as Louis XIV. The showing off of men’s legs kind of ended after the Regency period as then men started wearing trousers instead of breeches. Trousers actually existed in Regency times but they were often considered inappropriate attire.
Oh gosh Rococo. I don’t which was harder not to laugh at, the paintings or the architecture. No body did “bling” like the rococo architecture!
Yeah Rococo was all about showing off how much money you had. I love Versailles though, loved every precious minute I spent there.
